Creed II

Life has become a balancing act for Adonis Creed. Between personal obligations and training for his next big fight, he is up against the challenge of his life. Facing an opponent with ties to his family’s past only intensifies his impending battle in the ring. Rocky Balboa is there by his side through it all and, together, Rocky and Adonis will confront their shared legacy, question what’s worth fighting for, and discover that nothing’s more important than family. Creed II is about going back to basics to rediscover what made you a champion in the first place, and remembering that, no matter where you go, you can’t escape your history.

I thought that the first Creed movie was fantastic, taking that into consideration I was extremely nervous that this would just end up being a lackluster sequel.  However, I was pleasantly surprised, as director Steven Caple Jr. has delivered a sequel that’s every bit as good as its predecessor.

There are a few subplots throughout Creed II, and when they originally popped up I sort of shuttered at the idea that this film would be bogged down by meaningless plot threads, but I have to say that these elements really contributed to the story.   Particular the ones about Adonis and Bianca (Tessa Thompson’s character).  These two were completely flushed out, to the point where it makes wonder where they can go from here.

The most surprising element of this film was just how much I cared about the Drago family.  They are the villians make no mistake, but the film makes you see there side of things and you actually feel for them.  I would even say that there was a lot more of them.

Overall, Creed II is a solid sequel.  Caple Jr. did an outstanding job with the directing of this movie, and will be someone to watch in the coming years.  Michael B. Jordan also continues his reign as one of the biggest stars in Hollywood.  This is definitely one to see especially if you’re a Rocky fan.
