A SIMPLE FAVOR, directed by Paul Feig, centers around Stephanie (Anna Kendrick), a mommy vlogger who seeks to uncover the truth behind her best friend Emily’s (Blake Lively) sudden disappearance from their small town.
Paul Feig’s films are usually hit or miss for me. I think his humor is exactly the same, it either really works or not at all. So to see him direct a thriller like this was interesting to say the least. I’m pleased to report that A Simple Favor is a really fun movie. This isn’t a mind blowing film or anything like that, but it is definitely an enjoyable watch.
What’s most enjoyable about A Simple Favor is how carefree is seems. It is a thriller with a fairly serious plot, but it flows so easily that it is feels almost relaxing to watch. Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick work incredibly well together as well. Kendrick pretty much carries the film, as she as at the forefront of most of it. She plays sort of an innocent mother character, but you watch her character slowly change throughout. Blake Lively’s character stays the same way throughout, but you learn more about her as layers are peeled back. The film really keeps you guessing, and while the easy to predict finale happens, the way you get to it is a pretty enjoyable ride.
There are some issues with this film, but I feel like they are pretty easy to overlook when you can have such a good time watching it. This is honestly my favorite performance from both Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively, this is a really fun movie with a lot of rewatchability. Do yourself a favor (see what I did there) and go see this one.
