The Spy Who Dumped Me

The Spy Who Dumped Me tells the story of Audrey (Kunis) and Morgan (McKinnon), two best friends who unwittingly become entangled in an international conspiracy when one of the women discovers the boyfriend who dumped her was actually a spy.

The Spy Who Dumped Me (easily one of the worst movie titles in awhile) is pretty much exactly what you’d expect it to be.  There were surprising elements, and also some rather disappointing elements.

Brody-The-Spy-Who-Dumped-Me Easily the most dissapointing aspect of the film for me was the lack of chemistry between Kate McKinnon and Mila Kunis.  While they were playing best friends, they never seem all that connected.  They appear to always sort of working on their own performances instead of working together.

I thinkk wehre the film falters the most is when it tries to take its ridiculous story and make it serious.  The serious elements of the movie weigh down the silliness that is supposed to ensue.  It never quite finds the balance that it needs.  As for positives, Kate McKinnon is funny as usual, but it seems like Hollywood is still unsure of how to further utilize her talent.  Also this film has some seriously well done action sequences which was a bit shocking.  Overall this isn’t a terrible film, but probably not the best thing you’ll see this year either.
