This thrilling Netflix-original drama stars award-winning actress Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, who lives in a small Indiana town in 1983 — inspired by a time when tales of science fiction captivated audiences. When Joyce’s 12-year-old son, Will, goes missing, she launches a terrifying investigation into his disappearance with local authorities. As they search for answers, they unravel a series of extraordinary mysteries involving secret government experiments, unnerving supernatural forces, and a very unusual little girl.
I’ve been dying to talk about this for what seems like forever now. I watched the first 3 episodes and I was absolutely hooked, what an amazing show. An absolute love letter to Stephen King and the 80’s! This is probably my favorite show so far this year and I doubt it will be topped.
So many great performances in this show its hard to pin point just a few. In particular everyone really seems to love Winona Ryder’s performance, as do I. She is phenomenal as this concerned and rattled mother. She really gave her self to the role and was just flat out amazing. Charlie Heaton plays Jonathon who was my favorite character and I thought he did a tremendous job. The kid actors are all fantastic, especially the little girl that plays 11 fantastic job by her. My personal favorite performance came from David Harbour, who I’ve seen in a ton of stuff but never like this. He was amazing as this cop who’s had his fair share of tragedy and you really just fall in love with his character. Speaking of falling in love with a character how about Dustin? What an adorable kid! The cast is all great and very unique.
I love all of the 80’s nostalgia and how relentless the show is. The characters all become complex and it is done in a perfect away. Every character has something to add to the story and none of them are meant to be just thrown away. However the best part of this show is the MUSIC. The score is reminiscent to Refn films and it just fits perfect with the show and the 80’s vibe.
It’s impossible to predict the golden globes already, but if this show doesn’t bring home a ton of nominations its a crime. It should rack up the hardware too in my opinion and you might as well give the composer a globe tomorrow.
