A young woman wakes up after a terrible accident to find that she’s locked in a cellar with a doomsday prepper, who insists that he saved her life and that the world outside is uninhabitable following an apocalyptic catastrophe. Uncertain what to believe, the woman soon determines that she must escape at any cost.

10 Cloverfield Lane is the latest movie from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions, which generally produces pretty good stuff.  It is directed by Dan Trachtenberg in what is his first feature length film (not to shabby for a debut)  It stars as  John Goodman as a extravagant doomsday enthusiast, who just feels a bit off from the beginning.   Mary Elizabeth Winstead as a curious and and suspicious in nature woman that Goodman’s character claimed to have saved.  John Gallagher Jr. also stars as a young man also living with Goodman’s character Howard Stambler.  And that’s it the movie is these 3 people and that’s perfectly fine.

Firsts things first this is NOT a sequel.  You can only really make 1-2 connections to the original Cloverfield and there a stretch a best.  So if you go into this movie expecting a sequel to Cloverfield, there’s a good chance you’ll walk out hating it.  This is a claustrophobic, thrill ride of a movie.  Tension is built so well in this film even when everything seems right, you know something its most certainly wrong.  And that’s most in part to a amazing performance by John Goodman.  This guy is just unbelievable, his range is just out of this world.  He owns this role, you just immediately get the vibe, that something is really off about this guy.  Its certainly to early to talk about the Oscars, but who knows right.  Taking nothing from the other 2 performances but Goodman steals the movie.  I also really enjoyed the set design of this film, the bunker was designed perfectly creepy and the jukebox which Howard Stambler loves to use serves for great tension release.  Which brings me to the music which was perfect.  Overall its not a sequel and not even related the 1st movie but that is perfectly okay with me, I honestly enjoyed this one more and immediately wanted to see it again.

I really loved this movie and how it helped me guessing but…..  The third act just seems to come on a bit quick.  I just wish it had a little slower of a buildup, it just seemed a bit rushed to me.  And the ending was a bit wacky anyway.  Nothing that ruins the rest of the movie just left me with an ehh feeling.  However that’s just the ending and the rest of the movie was fantastic.
